Sharing Our Family With Yours

After-school hours can feel like a race. Backpacks land on the floor, everyone is hungry, and somebody needs to be somewhere in twenty minutes. It's easy to jump straight into questions about homework and chores.

Try five minutes of connection first

Before asking about assignments, try sitting together with a snack and giving your child five minutes of undivided attention. No phone, no fixing, no rushing to the next question.

Ask something open-ended like, “What was the funniest thing that happened today?” If they don't feel like talking, that's fine too. Just being available matters.

Some days the conversation will be two sentences. Other days it might be the beginning of something important. The goal isn't a perfect routine; it's letting our people know they're worth slowing down for.

From our family to yours: What's your favorite little after-school tradition?
