Before You Speak, Give Grace a Chance

Sharing Our Family With Yours

Have you ever said something in frustration and wished you could take it back? A long day, one more interruption, and suddenly the words come out harsher than you intended.

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. — James 1:19 (KJV)

The people we love deserve our patience

It is easy to show patience to strangers and then lose it over little things at home. We can still correct, disagree and set boundaries while remembering that how we speak matters.

Try one small pause

Ask whether this is as important as it feels, whether you are listening to understand, and whether there is a kinder way to respond. If you say something you regret, apologize—even to your children.

Today’s prayer

Heavenly Father, help us be patient with one another. Give us gentle words, listening ears and humble hearts when we need to apologize. Let our homes be places where love is spoken and forgiveness is practiced. Amen.

From our family to yours: Before you speak today, give grace a chance.
