One minute you are enjoying the weekend. The next, you remember the lunches, laundry, appointments and shoes that seem to disappear before Monday morning. A little preparation can help, without spending the whole evening cleaning.
Set a timer for twenty minutes
- First five minutes — Entryway: gather shoes, jackets, backpacks and anything that needs to leave the house.
- Next five minutes — Kitchen: clear the table, plan breakfast and check Monday’s dinner.
- Next five minutes — Laundry: put away one basket of clean clothes. Just one.
- Last five minutes — Calendar: review appointments and ask if anyone needs help preparing.
Let everyone help
Little ones can put shoes by the door, older children can pack their bags, and adults can review meals and schedules. When the timer ends, stop. There is no need to spend the whole night searching for another chore.
A peaceful home is not necessarily a spotless home. Sometimes it is simply a home where people are not constantly rushing.
From our family to yours: What always seems to go missing on your busiest mornings?
